Did you just wake up with a bead of sweat on your forehead (or elsewhere)? You probably just had a hot dream. The real question is why it happens to you, and why you're dreaming of that particular person... Put on your glasses, we'll explain the meaning of erotic dreams to you.

What happens in the unconscious stays in the unconscious

By definition, a dream is not reality (thank you Dr. Pertinence). But sometimes our dreams are so realistic that we can feel things physically, and even emotionally. You may have even fallen in love in your dreams. This can happen whether you are in a relationship or not in real life. Moreover, according to Rahul Jandial, neurosurgeon and neuroscience researcher, dreaming that you are unfaithful is extremely common.

Is it serious, doctor?

Erotic dreams are the result of ideas, or even fantasies that we may have unconsciously in real life. They can also come from totally random negative feelings we might have had during the day (the frustration and anger you felt after Véro took the last chocolate mousse at the restaurant this noon). In any case, the dream is an outlet for emotions and is not translated literally.

Am I obsessed?

According to Rahul Jandial, more than 90% of the population have erotic dreams. In all cultures and throughout all ages, erotic dreams are present, whether one has an active sex life or not, whether one has desire or not. So rest assured, having sexy dreams from time to time doesn't make you obsessed.  🙂
