Contactless stimulators are toys that stimulate the clitoris without any mechanical pressure/vibration effect. They have literally revolutionised the world of pleasure as they use pulsed air technology that generates so-called "contactless" wave vibrations, producing incredible sensations right through to orgasm.  Lire moins

What is it for?

To enjoy yourself, pure and simple! Reviews of contactless stimulators are, for the most part, absolutely glowing. For most people who use them, orgasm arrives in just a few minutes, and is described as "very intense". The other advantage is that they make it easy to have multiple orgasms (according to figures from a 2019 survey, 73% of people who use the Womanizer experience multiple orgasms).

But what does "contactless" actually mean?

When we talk about contactless, it doesn't mean you hold the toy 20cm away and wait for something to happen: that would be magic. However, contactless stimulators all have one thing in common: a hollow tip. It is placed around the external part of the clitoris, surrounding it without directly touching it. The edges of the tip press against the hood and the lips. But the glans of the clitoris is at the centre of the tip, with no direct contact. And that is what will change everything.

Why does it work?

But it's true, why is contactless stimulation so interesting? Let's start from the basics: usually, when you stimulate the glans of the clitoris – whether with a clitoral pebble, your fingers, gold a vibrating toy…) – you touch it directly. The sensory receptors in the clitoris will then receive 2 signals simultaneously: the pleasure signal, and the contact and friction signal. These 2 signals are correlated, and will rise, rise, rise in intensity, until pleasure takes over and orgasm occurs. Afterwards, the clitoris becomes too sensitive to be touched again: this is what is called the refractory period. This refractory period is due to the saturation of sensory receptors caused by friction.

By eliminating direct contact – and therefore friction, the sensory receptors of the clitoris receive only the pleasure signal. Pleasure builds faster, the refractory period becomes almost non-existent: pure bliss.

What are the differences?

Several brands (Womanizer, Love and Care, Lelo, Satisfyer) have created pulsed air toys. How do you find your way around? While the stimulation principle is the same for all these brands, there are nonetheless a few important differences:

  • the budget: prices for a clitoral stimulator vary greatly. Bear in mind that, as with all toys, the finish, motor power and quality of the technology used will not be the same for a £20 toy as for a luxury stimulator at £189.
  • the size of the tip: since it must comfortably surround the clitoris, the size of the tip is important. Depending on your body shape, opt for wider gold narrower tips.
  • the technology used: some stimulators (such as Womanizer gold the Wanda) use a pulsed air system, which provides intense stimulation while remaining very gentle. Others, such as Lelo, use sonic waves, which very powerfully stimulate the clitoris.
