How to choose your lubricant?

It's a simple question but one that deserves a few moments of attention. First of all, I want to tell you that lubricant is life! It can upgrade any sexual practice: masturbation, caresses, massage, penetration... Lube provides slipperiness and helps avoid friction that can be unpleasant.

There are 3 main families of lubricants: water-based, silicone-based, and oil-based. Depending on your practice, and whether or not you use a condom or a sextoy, there are a few small rules to follow.

Let's go for a tour of the world of lubricants, and their particularities!

1 - Water-based lubricant

These are gentle lubricants for your mucous membranes and your sex toys!

Usable in any circumstance, whether you use a condom, a sextoy, your fingers, or your hand, these lubricants adapt and provide a natural glide sensation.

In addition to lubricating, and thanks to their high water content, these products will also hydrate your skin and leave it soft. Their small drawback is that they can sometimes dry quickly and require a second application. So be careful to choose a water-based lubricant that is thick, to guarantee you a long-lasting glide!

2 - Silicone-based lubricant

The kings of glide! Silicone lubricants are thick and provide a very long-lasting slipperiness. Hydrophobic, you can even use them in the shower. They are perfect for long sessions and provide incredible comfort.

However, be careful, silicone-based lubricants are not compatible with sex toys made of the same material: the friction between silicone materials will create micro-lesions on the surface of your sextoy and this could eventually damage it and promote the appearance of germs.

3 - Oil-Based Lubricants

Oil-based lubricants (such as jojoba oil, coconut oil, or sweet almond oil) will nourish your skin while providing a smooth glide. Perfect for full body massages, these lubricants will coat your body sensually and leave a gentle scent. If you use raw vegetable oil, you can use it to lubricate your mucous membranes but also to nourish your hair, your facial skin... It’s an all-in-one product after all!

Be careful, if you use a condom, the oil makes the latex porous, which promotes tearing. And a torn condom = a risk of STIs and pregnancy. So I repeat: no oil-based lubricant with the use of a condom. Also, for people with a fragile vaginal flora, coconut oil and its antibacterial action should be avoided.

4 - Special Anal Lubricants

Anal lubricants can be water-based (and thus compatible with sex toys) or silicone-based. The anal area is very sensitive and does not lubricate naturally, so it needs a little help to be perfectly prepared for intercourse. This is why anal lubricants are thicker than others and often contain plant extracts to soothe and relax the area.
