What is the clitoris?

Get your notebooks out, today we're heading for an anatomy class with the star of the day: the clitoris!

Let's go ➡️

The clitoris has long been ignored by science and society. Its precise anatomy was only fully discovered in 1998! It is therefore not surprising that many of us are unaware of its existence or struggle to know its anatomical position precisely, as it still holds a mysterious aura today.

The clitoris is a fantastic realm that would be a shame not to explore, but to do so, one must know the way. Therefore, I propose a small sketch of clitoral cartography to guide you in this beautiful adventure.

The clitoris

How to locate the glans of the clitoris?

Although visible and accessible due to its external position, many individuals have difficulty locating it with certainty and precision. It's a shame because as the top of the clitoris, the glans concentrates thousands of nerve endings. About 8000, compared to 6000 for the penis, making it the seat of female pleasure. Indeed, its stimulation is particularly effective for reaching orgasm. So, concretely, where is it located?

The glans of the clitoris is hidden under the hood , a small cluster of skin that protects it. It peaks at the top of the labia minora, exactly where they meet. Another method to locate it is to start from the entrance of the vagina and move upwards between 2 and 4 cm, spreading the labia minora. The size of the clitoris can vary greatly, ranging from a few millimeters to a few centimeters. Note that size does not affect sensitivity or the intensity of sensations.

It appears as a small, somewhat hard ball that swells with arousal, similar to an erect penis. It is then easier to feel under the fingertips, and it can be teased and stimulated more directly. You can easily see the glans of the clitoris by gently uncovering it, as well as feel it by touch. For those wishing to know their anatomy precisely, it is recommended to visually explore the vulva using a small mirror positioned between the legs, while spreading the inner and outer lips.

It is proven that the clitoris has no physiological function other than pleasure. It is entirely dedicated to it and plays no other role. It is a sexual organ that has no link to procreation. It's just there to make us enjoy!

The heart clit

The roots, an immersed part

Besides the glans, the clitoris consists of internal branches that wrap around the lateral edges of the vaginal cavity. Called legs, roots, or pillars, these four parts that straddle the vagina are also rich with thousands of nerve endings that contribute to female pleasure.

You understood it, stimulation through the vaginal route engages the internal branches of the clitoris, contributing to orgasm. Here is information that challenges old beliefs establishing that vaginal pleasure was distinct from Clitoral pleasure (considered immature according to Freud, who apologized for it towards the end of his life). Nevertheless, “vaginal” pleasure also pertains to the clitoris.

A specific area stands out within the anatomy of the vagina. It is what has been called for ages the G-spot, which does not correspond exactly to an organ or a concrete and defined part of the anatomy, but rather to a point of convergence of sensitivities. It is a junction point of several elements, now called the C complex. It is formed by the internal structures of the clitoris and the urethra. These meet at a location on the anterior wall of the vagina, a few centimeters from its entrance (moving in the direction of the navel).

clitoris root

A pleasure magnified by the double stimulation of the clitoris

Pleasure is constructed from the internal or external stimulation of the clitoris, but for a large majority of people with a clitoris, it is multiplied by double stimulation, that is, internal and external. 80% of people with a clitoris would need external stimulation of it to reach orgasm. Each person has their own sensitivity and preferences.

Like its counterpart, the penis, the clitoris swells under the effect of arousal , and this in its entirety: glans and internal roots (which include two bulbs and two corpora cavernosa each). Thus “erect,” the glans becomes more sensitive.

As for the internal parts, they will be stimulated by penetration which will create pressure on them. This will stimulate nerve endings, increase sensations, and enhance orgasm. Vibrations stimulate the internal parts of the clitoris and trigger orgasm if they reach the right spot. So if your clitoral glans is sensitive and cannot tolerate direct stimulation, do not hesitate to change the area. The orgasm will be just as intense 🙂

"Finding it" is not just about locating it

Once the structure and location of the clitoris are demystified, it is still necessary to be interested in it and solicit it adequately. It's not yet very clear for everyone! No one is to blame here. This relative ignorance indeed results from gaps in sex education, which is not very focused on female pleasure.

  • The fundamental thing to remember is that the clitoris must be approached with gentleness, delicacy, and sensuality. Its sensitivity gives it immense potential for pleasure, but also for discomfort, even pain. Therefore, always proceed in stages, taking your time to build excitement. Do not neglect caresses. Indeed, the onset of excitement is not instantaneous. For desire to take hold, a certain amount of time is necessary. Why? So that the blood flow occurs throughout the entire clitoris.

  • Another point: Use lubricant! This will improve the quality of sensations and reduce the risk of irritation. If you have little natural lubrication or if you like it to be very slippery, the lubricant will be your best friend!

There you go, you know everything about the clitoris! We will meet again very soon with a new article on its stimulation!

See you soon 💜
