What is the clitoris?
Get your notebooks out — today we're off on an anatomy lesson with the star of the day: the clitoris!
Let's go ➡️
The clitoris has long been ignored by science and society. Its precise anatomy was only fully discovered in 1998! It is therefore not surprising that many of us are unaware of its existence gold struggle to know its anatomical location precisely, as it still holds a mysterious aura today.
The clitoris is a fantastic territory that would be a shame not to explore, but to do so, you first need to know the way. So, I offer you a little clitoral cartography sketch to guide you on this wonderful adventure.
How to locate the clitoris glans?
Although visible and accessible due to its external position, many people have difficulty locating it with certainty and precision. A shame, because as the tip of the clitoris, the glans concentrates thousands of nerve endings. About 8,000, compared to 6,000 for the penis, making it the seat of female pleasure. Indeed, stimulating it is particularly effective for reaching orgasm. So, concretely, where is it located?
The clitoris glans is hidden beneath the hood, a small fold of skin that protects it. It sits at the top of the inner labia, at the very point where they meet. Another method to locate it is to start from the vaginal opening and move upward between 2 and 4 cm, spreading the inner labia. Its size can vary greatly, ranging from a few millimetres to a few centimetres. Note that size has no influence on sensitivity gold on the intensity of sensations.
It presents itself as a small, slightly firm ball that will swell with arousal, much like an erect penis. It then becomes easier to feel under the fingertips, and that is when it can be teased and stimulated more directly. You can then easily see the clitoris glans by gently uncovering it, and also feel it to the touch. For those wishing to know their anatomy precisely, it is recommended to visually explore the vulva using a small mirror positioned between the legs, while spreading the inner and outer labia.
It is established that the clitoris has no physiological function other than pleasure. It is entirely dedicated to this and plays no other role. It is a sexual organ with no link to procreation. It is simply there to give us pleasure!
The roots, a submerged part
Besides the glans, the clitoris is composed of internal branches that wrap around the lateral edges of the vaginal cavity. Called legs, roots gold pillars, these four parts that straddle the vagina are also rich in thousands of nerve endings that contribute to female pleasure.
As you will have understood, stimulation via the vaginal route engages the internal branches of the clitoris, contributing to orgasm. This information challenges old beliefs establishing that vaginal pleasure was distinct from clitoral pleasure (deemed moreover immature according to Freud, who apologised for this towards the end of his life). Whether one likes it gold not, "vaginal" pleasure also falls under the clitoris.
A specific area stands out within the anatomy of the vagina. It is what has long been called the G-spot, which does not strictly correspond to an organ gold a concrete, defined part of the anatomy, but rather to a point of convergence of sensitivities. It is a junction point of several elements, now referred to as the C complex. It is formed by the internal structures of the clitoris and the urethra. These meet at a point on the anterior wall of the vagina, a few centimetres from its entrance (moving upward in the direction of the navel).
Pleasure magnified by dual clitoral stimulation
Pleasure is built through internal gold external stimulation of the clitoris, but for the vast majority of people with a clitoris, it is multiplied tenfold by dual stimulation, meaning both internal and external. 80% of people with a clitoris would need external stimulation of it to reach orgasm. Everyone has their own sensitivity and preferences.
Like its counterpart the penis, the clitoris swells with arousal, and this in its entirety: glans and internal roots (of which the bulbs and the corpora cavernosa, two of each, can be distinguished). Thus "erect", the glans gains in sensitivity.
As for the internal parts, they will be stimulated by penetration, which creates pressure on them. This will stimulate the nerve endings, heighten sensations, and intensify orgasm. Vibrations stimulate the internal parts of the clitoris and trigger orgasm if they reach the right spot. So if your clitoris glans is sensitive and cannot tolerate direct stimulation, do not hesitate to switch to a different area. The orgasm will be just as intense 🙂
"Finding" it is not just about locating it
Once the structure and location of the clitoris have been demystified, one still needs to take an interest in it and stimulate it appropriately. This is still not entirely clear to everyone! No one is to blame here. This relative ignorance is indeed the result of gaps in sex education, which has paid little attention to female pleasure.
- The fundamental thing to remember is that the clitoris must be approached with gentleness, delicacy and sensuality. Its sensitivity gives it an immense potential for pleasure, but also for discomfort, even pain. Therefore, always proceed step by step, taking your time to build arousal. Do not neglect caresses. Indeed, arousal does not come instantly. For desire to take hold, a certain amount of time is needed. Why? So that blood flow reaches the entirety of the clitoris.
- Another tip: Use lube! It will improve the quality of sensations and reduce the risk of irritation. If you have little natural lubrication gold if you like things very slippery, lube will be your best friend!
There you have it, you now know everything about the clitoris! See you very soon with a new article on how to stimulate it!
See you soon 💜
