The star lubes
You've made the right choice
What do you need to know to choose the right lube?
Water-based lube: the all-rounder for intimacy
The classic choice, and for good reason. Compatible with latex condoms, silicone, glass or metal sex toys, and easy to rinse off: water-based lube really ticks a lot of boxes. It's gentle on mucous membranes, often enriched with moisturising or soothing ingredients, and available in natural, organic or vegan versions — ideal if you're mindful of what you apply to your skin (which makes total sense, really). Its only downside: it evaporates faster than other types, which may mean reapplying a little along the way. Nothing dramatic.
If you can only pick one, you can't go wrong with the 100% natural Love&Care lube.
Silicone-based lube: long-lasting, ultra-smooth
For those who love when it lasts, silicone lube is the choice for prolonged comfort. Water-resistant, it's perfectly at home in the shower or bath. It's also particularly recommended for sensitive skin. A word of caution though: it's not advised for use with silicone sex toys (it can degrade the material over time) and is incompatible with latex condoms. Glass or metal sex toys, on the other hand, have no issue with this type of lube.

Oil-based lube: hydration and sensoriality
Often formulated with natural vegetable oils, this type of lube focuses on softness and moisturising properties. It's almost as much a skincare product as a lube. It's long-lasting and pleasant... but it doesn't play well with latex condoms (it weakens them) or with silicone sex toys. Best saved for moments without a condom and without a silicone toy, then.
Our favourites are the orange blossom lube by YESforLOV, and if that scent isn't for you, you'll find a wide choice of fragrances at Divinextases.
Anal lube: a category in its own right
The anal area doesn't self-lubricate, so a dedicated lube isn't a luxury — it's a no-brainer. These formulas are generally thicker, longer-lasting, and designed for specific use. Always check their compatibility with your equipment (condom or sex toy).
If needed, the best value for money in this category is the Passage du Désir Cosmétique special anal lube.
Flavoured lube: when pleasure has a taste
Strawberry, vanilla, caramel... edible lubes add a fun dimensions to foreplay. They are generally water-based, so compatible with sex toys and condoms. Recent formulations (such as the « Lub Gourmet », our bestseller in the category), no longer contain sugar, making them perfectly suitable for vaginal penetration.
In summary: how to choose the right lube?
Do you use silicone sex toys? -> Water-based lube only.
Are you having sex with a condom? -> Water-based or silicone (no oil).
Looking for long-lasting glide? -> Silicone (if no silicone toy).
Are you sensitive to ingredients? -> Go for a natural, organic or vegan water-based formula.
The right lube is the one that suits your current situation. And since situations vary... having two or three varieties in the bedside drawer is genuinely the advice of the day!
