Why do some dildos have a suction cup?

A suction cup has two advantages:

  • you can attach your dildo to any flat surface (a chair, a wall…). Once it’s inserted, you don’t need to hold it, leaving your hands free to stimulate other parts of your body or your partner’s. Your hip movements then control the depth and angle of penetration.
  • it acts as a flat base, allowing you to use the dildo anally without the risk of it being drawn inside by the sphincter muscles.

Which material should you choose?

Today, most dildos are made of silicone, but you can also find them in glass, metal, jelly and even wood. What difference does it make? Which material should you choose? Let’s take a look:

  • silicone: silicone dildos are the most common. Their flexibility varies depending on the silicone used, and they’re perfect for all kinds of play (vaginal, anal, G-spot, thrusting…). Ideally, clean them with a dedicated toy cleaner for thorough hygiene and a longer lifespan.
  • silexpan (also known as ‘dual density’): this is actually a combination of several materials. A firm core helps the sex toy hold its shape, while soft silicone around it gives it an ultra-soft feel. If you’re looking for a dildo with a realistic texture, Silexpan is the way to go.
  • metal and glass: ideal materials for exploring the G-spot, as their firmness lets you apply strong pressure to the vaginal walls. You can also play with temperature: run them under cold or warm water to try different sensations. As for cleaning, you can easily sterilise these sex toys by placing them in a pan of boiling water for a few moments.
