The so-called "female" orgasm is much more complex and varied than we generally imagine. While most of us are familiar with clitoral orgasms, did you know that... the cervix can also be a source of intense pleasure?

Oh really? you exclaim.

Stay here, I'll tell you everything in 7 key points.

1. It really exists

(even if science is still hesitant)

For a long time, scientists doubted the existence of the cervical orgasm simply because the cervix contains far fewer nerve endings than the clitoris. Yet, many people describe very real sensations when it is stimulated.

Recent brain imaging studies have shown that stimulation of the cervix activates specific areas of the brain, different from those stimulated by Clitoral pleasure. The Dr. Barry Komisaruk, a renowned neuroscientist, demonstrated that this causes activity in the somatosensory cortex, responsible for the perception of bodily sensations.

How do we explain that?

Researchers think that the pleasure comes less from local nerve endings than from a combination of:

  • Indirect stimulation of the uterine plexus

  • Significant release of oxytocin (the pleasure hormone)

  • Deep muscle contractions

2. It's not at all the same sensation as Clitoral orgasm

If you've already experienced different types of orgasms, you know they have almost nothing in common. Where the Clitoral orgasm from external stimulation is often:

  • Quick and intense

  • Localized (around the clitoris)

  • Similar to an electric shock

The cervical orgasm is rather manifested by:

  • A gradual rise in pleasure

  • A diffuse sensation throughout the pelvis

  • Waves of internal warmth

  • Deep and slow contractions (sometimes visible to the naked eye on the abdomen)

  • A duration often longer (up to several minutes)

Some women compare it to "an orgasm that comes from the guts," or describe a sensation of intense fullness. Others note that emotion plays a more significant role than in the Clitoral orgasm.

3. Not all people with vulvas feel it

(and that's normal)

Unlike the clitoris, a universal erogenous zone, the sensitivity of the cervix varies greatly from person to person. Some even confuse this sensation with the stimulation of the deep spot (see diagram above), an erogenous zone located between the cervix and the anterior vaginal wall, reputed to provoke intense orgasms when stimulated.

Several factors explain these differences:

Personal anatomy :

  • Position of the cervix (higher or lower in the vagina)

  • Orientation (some cervixes are more accessible than others)

  • Individual sensitivity

Menstrual cycle :

The cervix is generally more sensitive during ovulation, when it is lower, soft, and open. Many individuals report more intense sensations during this period.

Gynecological history :

  • People who have given birth vaginally are often more sensitive

  • Certain procedures (like IUD insertion) can alter sensitivity

The important thing to remember is that the absence of sensation at this level does not mean there is a problem.

4. Some positions favor it

For those who wish to explore this sensation, here are the positions that work best:

Modified doggy style :

  • Arched back to open the pelvis

  • Partner controlling depth and angle

  • Slow and deep movements rather than fast

Andromache :

  • Penetrated person lying on their stomach

  • Legs slightly apart

  • Allows very deep penetration without discomfort

Enhanced missionary :

  • Pillow under hips to elevate the pelvis

  • Legs of the penetrated person on the partner's shoulders

  • Allows optimal contact with the cervix

The ultimate tip:

Favor the quality of contact over the quantity of movements. A firm and continuous pressure is often more effective than rapid back-and-forth motions.

5. It may be more common after childbirth

Many people discover this type of pleasure only after having a child. Several possible explanations:

Anatomical changes :

  • The cervix remains slightly more open

  • The vagina is often more spacious

  • Pelvic sensitivity may be altered.

Body awareness :

  • Better knowledge of one's anatomy

  • Fewer inhibitions after the experience of childbirth

  • Easier to relax

Obviously, this is absolutely not a generalization.

6. It could have health benefits

Beyond immediate pleasure, cervical orgasm could present several advantages:

Relief from painful periods :

  • Uterine contractions help expel blood

  • Oxytocin released acts as a natural painkiller.

Improvement of pelvic circulation :

  • Reduction of risks of venous congestion

  • Better oxygenation of tissues

Emotional well-being :

  • Powerful anti-stress effect

  • Increased feeling of connection to one's body

  • Possible improvement of self-esteem

7. We have been talking about it for less than 50 years

The history of the recognition of this orgasm is revealing of our relationship to what is called female sexuality.

Before the 1970s :

  • Total absence of mention in medical literature

  • Female pleasure was limited to the clitoris in studies

Sexual revolution :

  • First testimonies in feminist consciousness groups

  • Exploration of "secret" erogenous zones

1980-2000 :

  • Appearance of the term "cervical orgasm"

  • Popularization through sexology books

  • Beginning of serious scientific research

Even today, many practitioners are unaware of this phenomenon.

Whether one wishes to experience it or not, its existence reminds us that pleasure can take multiple, evolving, and surprising forms. The essential thing is to listen to one's body, without any particular pressure or expectation.
