EXHIBITION
REMI NOEL: photographs

Rémi Noël composes his images with next to nothing: an alarm clock, a magazine, a pair of binoculars, a plastic spider… Armed with his precious bric-a-brac, the photographer orchestrates impertinent chance encounters. Prepared with the care of an entomologist pinning an unknown species, these improbable confrontations imperceptibly give an unexpected twist to reality.

To successfully carry out his projects, Rémi Noël visits ordinary places in an obstinate hunt for the déjà vu: a beach of pebbles, a kitchen counter or a garage exit… Their familiar banality is the very guarantee of the extraordinary scene that he is planning to organise. Thus we discover Batman…crucified in a children’s bedroom. Or a telescope, deliberately trained on a…watermelon.

These unusual or burlesque visions make up a troubling and enigmatic universe. The dreariest everyday experience is skilfully transformed, and turned upside down. A world takes shape, balancing precariously on the wire of the absurd.
