Choreographic Installation by Joel Borges

"The project I have undertaken is the fruit of encounters and close associations with artists in different domains. These collaborations constitute a series of scenic conversations developed and enriched from piece to piece.

Nothing pre-exists, other than the memory of preceding works: memory of the dancer's body, memory of the dialogue between the different universes of each piece. A dance "in progress" that resumes, with each new project, the conversation begun in the last.

Detach the artistic piece from traditional performance spaces to focus towards environmental and urban spaces that are in an active dialogue with the things and people they contain. Invest industrial spaces or explore historical sites, in order to contribute in giving them a new dimension and provoking at the same occasion particular encounters.
Sharpen the publics sensations within the scenic space are at the heart of the research that I explore through my choreographic installations.

By becoming one with the dancers, by brushing against the art pieces, by joining the Other, they experience the sharing, that they maybe, thought impossible. An experience to build "in situ", where the public is invited to choose its own visual perspective, to reinscribe its presence and history around the movement.

Each project is a journey through the installation, a choreographic experience, and a dreamlike adventure... In Cosmogarden created in the Grande Halle de la Manufacture des Oeillets d'Ivry-sur-Seine in 1997, in Epic without end or the Paradise lost created in the gardens of the Villa Medicis in Rome in 1999, and in True, and yet False created in the Tropical Garden of the Estufa Fria in Lisbon in 2001, I express a dance that has much to learn from the contact with the other, put in the relation with the body of the audience."

About the creation…

The choreographic installation Morning Glory came into being during my period of residence at Villa Kujoyama in Kyoto, Japan. It allows the relationships between distinct languages and registers to be perceived, in a framework where several styles merge to form a choreographic, musical, architectural, stage design and video film creation.
